Hurricane Milton intensifies over the Gulf of Mexico

Hurricane Milton rapidly intensified into a Category 4 storm Monday morning, with winds of 150 mph. It is expected to strengthen even more as it heads east over the Gulf of Mexico, potentially becoming a Category 5 storm. The National Hurricane Center predicts that Milton will make landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast, in or near the Tampa Bay area, on Wednesday. This is the same area that was hit by Helene just over a week ago. Hurricane and storm surge watches are in effect along Florida’s western Gulf Coast.
